In case of suspected lesions, a preoperative biopsy should be performed.
Tumors which have been recognized late, often lead to total mastectomy. On the contrary, neoplasms which have been diagnosed early as part of screening, rarely require removal of the entire breast. In this case, specialized plastic surgery techniques can be used to cover both the breast and skin gap, creating a new breast. In order to safely remove the cancer from an oncological point of view and, at the same time, to achieve a good aesthetic effect, ONCOPLASTIC BREAST SURGERY is utilized.
To achieve an ultimate radical operation, Lymph Node Dissection is performed, an intervention which dramatically reduces the rates of regional relapse of the disease, while it may increase survival.
Technique of the sentinel lymph node in cancer
In early neoplasms of the breast the technique of “Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy” can be applied, namely the detection of the first lymph node which drains the tumor. If it has no metastasis, the radical lymph node clearance of the armpit can be omitted, thus greatly simplifying the operation.
When mastectomy is necessary, immediate or delayed reconstruction is performed, in collaboration with plastic surgeons, specialized in breast cancer.
Tailored pre and post-operative therapy is decided upon, in collaboration with all experts after an InterDisciplinary Conference (IDC). After surgical treatment of breast cancer, the patient receives post-operative and long-term follow-up in cooperation with special oncologists.
