Umbilical Hernia
Umbilical hernia is found at the area of the umbilicus (original umbilical hernia) or close to it (paraumbilical hernia).
Paraumbilical hernia usually appears in adults, while the original umbilical hernia in children.
Paraumbilical hernia appears due to loosening, with age, and opening of the abdominal wall around the umbilicus. It is more frequent in women and, in particular multiparous and obese women.
The risk of incarceration is high. Surgery is the only treatment. It can be performed laparoscopically, but the ideal method is reconstruction under local anesthesia, with the patient being discharged on the same day.
